Old Judgments
So, you have a judgment that is 2, 3 or maybe even 8 years old. You think to yourself, "If I, or the attorney, haven't collected it by now, it will never be collected." That is where you could be wrong.

outstanding judgments can last as much as 21 years (as in Ohio). In addition, most states allow interest to accrue on judgments (e.g., California 10%, Ohio 12%, etc.).
Maybe your judgment debtor didn't have assets at the time when you received your judgment.
Maybe you didn't have the proper tools to find those assets.
Maybe you just didn't want to spend the time and energy necessary to find and levy the assets of your judgment debtor.

Not to mention, if you are not expecting to collect it, any money would be a plus. To add to that, after a few years, your judgment debtor has most likely forgotten about you. The last thing they expect is to have something levied.
This is an opportune time to have them served. They don't have time to hide their assets and it usually catches them off guard. If they have acquired a new asset, they will not want to risk loosing it. So, what is the time limit for your judgment? That would depend on what state it was issued in.
